A Beach Towel in your Glove Box

A look at the incredibly-compresed compact LightLoad towels

Product Review by Linda Eagleson

As nice as it would be to have a towel handy in the car, keeping a beach towel in the glove box just isn’t practical. A sudden downpour, a pack of wet dogs, a spilled super Big Gulp, or a tempting rope swing over a sparkling Rhode Island pond and we wish that we had that towel handy.

I was contacted by the makers of Lightload towels to sample one of their products, the compact beach towel. Figuring that this might help our problem with the wet, soggy beach towels and lack of space, I offered to try it out for them. My husband and I travel a lot and are always looking for different ways to make our packing as simple as possible, so this compact towel could be a nice solution for traveling light! The fact that this towel is made of biodegradable material, viscose, which is a plant cellulose material like rayon really scored big with me because I am one of those green conscious people that are overrunning the world right now. Can you imagine using a towel and then throwing it away after it has been used? Well, it’s not a woven fabric, so it is intended to be disposable, but it’s pretty tough and can be used multiple times. Without any artificial fibers, this towel can either be burned or composted into the ground.

Plus, this towel is the size of a beach towel, measuring 36″ by 60″, but it’s compressed down to the size of a hocky puck! Imagine slipping a beach towel into your pocket! You could put a dozen beach towels in a glove box!

Light Load Towels also make other biodegradable travel items, such as hand-towel sized towel. They are convenient and easy to carry — perfect for emergency

use since they are so small, about the size of a half-dollar coin around, and a half-inch thick. In a pinch it can be used as a fire starter, for first aid, and in excessive weather conditions Light Load Towels can be used as protection from the extreme cold. My husband tossed a couple of little ones into his Ready Freddy pack “just in case”.

These neat, compact towels are sold in packages of 3, measuring 12″ by 24″ and sell for $5.95; a smaller set of two towels, measuring 12″ by 12″ for $2.75, or the beach towel, measuring 36″ by 60″ and that sells for $6.95.

I would highly recommend these towels to anyone who has a need for a towel “just in case” but has no space to keep it handy. Its resonable price and bio-degradability earn it a “Golden Star” award in my book!

Sallie Stone Writes:

Packing for adventure travel is not a simple task and involves, as it should, a certain amount of thought and planning that you can do without while packing for a normal vacation. Thought and second thought are necessary if you want to pack a bag that does not contain anything extra but at the same time does not miss out on something essential. While a number of sports and adventure stores do carry stuff that is specially made for adventure travel like clothing, sleeping bags, rucksacks and other accessories, nobody has paid much attention till date to the humble towel which is a necessary part of an adventure traveler’s backpack. Till date, campers, bikers and other adventure travelers had to make do with small towels to save on space, but due to their small sizes, these towels could hardly serve any other purpose. The latest offering in the adventure travel market, Lightload Towels are a definite boon for adventure travelers. Let us see how these light load towels provide utility, comfort and convenience to adventurers…

5 Tips To Follow For Traveling Light

Carry Lightload towels. Towels are one thing that all of us carry around on our trips. But unfortunately these things are bulky and heavy. Switch to light load towels. These are specially created towels that are not only much more absorbent than regular towels; they weigh as less as .5 oz and can be folded to the size of a quarter. Lightload towels are available in two sizes—12×24 inches (hand towel) and 36×60 inches (beach towel). These towels dry faster than regular ones, so you will never again face the hassle of packing in a wet towel and getting your luggage all smelly. These Lightload beach towels serve multiple purposes and you can not only use them after bathing, you can also use them to protect your body in both hot and cold weather.

Travel Towels: Dry Ideas

Rare is the towel that can fold up small and tight like a dinner napkin. However, in certain situations in which towels aren’t provided, such as at campgrounds and beach houses, you may need to bring along your own towel or two (better than drip-drying). To the rescue: thin, mega-absorbent towels that take up little luggage space and have the sopping power of a sponge.

Most people who like going on camping and adventure trips are nature lovers. Unfortunately many such people, advertently or inadvertently end up harming Mother Nature on these trips. This happens when people use products that harm the earth. Apart from using polluting fuels, burning wood and littering camping areas with plastic, some campers and backpackers also litter up camping spaces with things that do not naturally degrade fast.

Many campers leave behind paper and cloth on camping sites either by mistake or because they think that they will biodegrade fast. However, in an era when everything is mixed with something or the other, even paper and cloth do not degrade fast. A mere piece of paper that is used for wrapping food undergoes several chemical treatments that makes it tough for bacteria to degrade it fast and these things then keep on spoiling the beauty of camp sites for months on end. As a responsible camper, it is your duty to try and carry stuff on your camping and backpacking expeditions that degrades fast naturally and is not an eyesore for other campers.

One such product is Lightload towels. These towels have been specially created for the environment conscious camper and backpacker. They are manufactured out of 100% plant cellulose and degrade very fast. Their high glucose content ensures that herbivores and bacteria love them as food. In order to get rid of a Lightload towel, all you will need to do is bury it in the soil. Even if you drop one accidentally while backpacking, you do not have to worry about your towel littering up the environment, because it will decompose very fast. If you find burying a towel a tedious task, you can just burn it. They burn easily and do not produce any harmful pollutants.

Since these towels are made out of hundred per cent natural fiber, they are excellent for use in first aid procedures. Apart from this, these organic towels can be used for drying, as protection against the weather, as a fire starter, cleaning aid, water filter and many other things. But this is not all. The best part about Lightload towels is that they are really the lightest towels that you will ever see. With a 12×24 inch towel weighing only half an ounce, you can carry as many on your camping trip as you want without feeling any weight. Think you do not have space! You will be shocked to know that a 36×60 inch full size Lightload towel comes in such a small pack that you can hold half a dozen in your pocket with room to spare. So the next time you go camping, take along these eco-friendly and featherweight towels with you instead of carrying around extra bulk in your back pack.

Jamaica, NY (September 20, 2008) Dyna-E International has announced the addition of a unique pocket-sized beach towel to their line of products. Traveling light is a goal for many people, and this new beach towel makes reaching that goal a lot easier. The towels were cited in the San Jose Mercury News on December10, 2006 in “Holiday Gifts to Go” as a great gift for travelers. They make an excellent gift for anyone who is likely to end up at a beach, lake or pool, or anywhere else a beach towel or large towel would come in handy.

The only beach towel that can fit in a pocket, this unique new product is compressed to the size of a hockey puck but opens to a full 3 x 5 feet (90x150cm). Traditional beach towels are often so large and bulky that they edge out other items on a traveler’s packing list. But Lightload Beach Towels can be packed in any small space with ease.

Produced by the makers of the original all-purpose lightweight towel for campers, backpackers and other outdoor enthusiasts, Lightload Beach Towels are made of the same 100% viscose biodegradable material.
They are as absorbent and versatile as the original Lightload Towels and more absorbent than cotton.

Lightload Beach Towels come in a compact 3-½ inch diameter shape that weighs only five ounces. Lightload Beach Towels are great for people who travel in motor homes, motorcyclists, hikers, and those in the military, as well as anyone just going for a swim. They are great for family vacations and business travelers as well. Like the original Lightload Towels, Lightload Beach Towels have dozens of other uses in addition to drying off on the beach and lying in the sand. They can be used for insulation in cold weather or as a head wrap or even a body wrap while the laundry is being done. In an emergency, Lightload Beach Towels can be used as S.O.S. signal flags, trail markers or first aid supplements. They can even be used as neck scarves to keep winter travelers warm.

Soft on skin and extremely durable, travelers will love the convenience of Lightload Beach Towels. They are machine washable and will last until they don’t. The towels dry easily in the sun after a swim. Each waterproof package of Lightload Beach Towels sells for only $6.50. The price is reduced to $3.50 per towel for orders of twelve towels or more. Further information can be found on the company’s website at www.ultralighttowels.com.  You can also request a free sample online or by calling Dyna-E International at 917-922-0154 or emailing info@lightloadtowels.com.”
